Data Protocols and Data Request Guidelines

The Behavioral Education Center is committed to fostering a research environment that upholds the highest standards of ethics, privacy, and security. Our data usage policies are designed to ensure that all research activities utilizing our datasets protect the rights and confidentiality of individuals represented within the data, while promoting the sharing of knowledge and findings in a responsible manner. These policies apply to all projects and are intended to facilitate meaningful, ethical research that can contribute positively to the field of educational science. By adhering to these guidelines, researchers not only safeguard the interests of participants but also enhance the integrity and impact of their work. Below, you will find a detailed outline of our core principles regarding ethical use, data security, and the publication and sharing of research findings.

Ethical Use

All research must strictly adhere to ethical guidelines, protecting participant privacy and dignity. Misuse and commercial exploitation of the datasets are expressly forbidden to maintain trust and integrity in our research endeavors.

Ministry of Education Approval

Project proposals must secure approval from respective provincial education authority. Considerations for approval include alignment with educational priorities, ethical standards, and potential impact on educational practices. Researchers should provide a comprehensive proposal outlining these elements to facilitate the assessment.

IRB Requirements and Approval

All projects utilizing our datasets must demonstrate compliance with Bilkent University IRB requirements. Approval is contingent upon several critical factors, including ethical considerations, risk assessment, data handling procedures, and special considerations on vulnerable populations.

Data Privacy and Security

In compliance with Turkey’s KVKK law, which aligns with GDPR standards, researchers are reminded that using even anonymized Turkish data outside of Turkey is subject to restrictions and requires a special permit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Please contact the Strategy Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs for this approval process.

Researchers must guarantee and document the implementation of secure data handling and storage practices to ensure the protection of data privacy and security. This includes adherence to both local and international data protection regulations, emphasizing the safeguarding of participant information throughout the research process.

Publication and Sharing

Researchers are required to share their findings with the center and ensure proper citation of datasets in any publications, following the citation guidelines provided on our Datasets Overview page.
